My main interests lay in contemporary fantasy and science fiction. The idea of worlds that are almost, but not entirely, like our own is an area that presents endless opportunities for exploration.
Cyberpunk, and fiction that explores cyberpunk themes, is squarely in that domain. It’s unsurprising, then, that those ideas tend to creep into my works.
I’m very interested in writing, adapting, or having my work adapted into comic book form. I think that comic books are the next best thing to having your work adapted for the silver screen, but with comics you have so much more control over the end product (as should be apparent by the drivel that shows up in movie theaters every year when something gets adapted from novel or short-story form — hell, even comic book form; why is it so hard to do it right???).
However, I really also enjoy dramatic fiction if done in a certain way. Many people don’t realize it, for example, but Kevin Smith has built his entire career writing romantic comedies. They’re romantic comedies full of foul mouthed deviants, but they’re compelling, sympathetic characters! I think it takes a lot of talent to make that sort of genre appeal to a wide audience, and that talent seems to be rare (also see: Jeph Jacques‘ Questionable Content web comic).
I could go on for a long time, frankly, and it would bore people quickly. Suffice to say, there’s a spin on nearly every genre that I can get into, so if you’re looking for a collaborator or adapter for some project, drop me an email and we’ll chat.
